Default Browser

Problem:
When I double-click on an .htm or .html or whenever I try to visit a link in another application, the wrong web browser launches. How can I change this?

Solution:

First of all, the default browser is the web browser that automatically opens when you try to access a web page. For example, if you saved a web page (.htm or .html file) to your hard drive and double-clicked on it, windows will start your default browser in order to view the web page.

Unfortunately, Netscape Communicator and Internet Explorer often take over web browsing duties without asking. However, there is an excellent tool that will take care of the browser war on your computer. Download and run SetBrowser from here.

Step 1 is to select the browser you want to make the default. There is no need to change anything on Step 2. On Step 3, you have to find where the browser's .exe file is on your hard drive. The "Auto find" feature takes a long time on a large hard drive. Your best bet is to "Specify location..." Netscape can usually be found at C:\Program Files\Netscape\Communicator\Program\netscape.exe. You can find IE at C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe. Exit the application, and that's all there is to it.
